Lahaina - Lahaina is one of Maui's most vibrant towns, often called the "jewel in the crown of Maui." Lahaina, a town with a vibrant past, sets a dramatic stage in history, interspersed with Hawaiian chiefs and kings, foreign ship captains and missionaries, and immigrant plantation laborers. Long famed as the former capitol of the Hawaiian kingdom, Lahaina, and the surrounding area, was the playground of kings and royalty.
In the early nineteenth century, Lahaina was also a historic whaling village during the whaling boom of the mid-1800's. Up to 1,500 sailors from as many as 400 ships took leave in Lahaina including Herman Melville, who immortalized the era in his classic novel Moby Dick. Known for the spectacular oceanviews and warm climate, Lahaina and the surrounding area is a popular destination for both visitors and residents.
Homes and condos for sale in the Lahaina region are very much in demand due to this town's beautiful location and vibrancy. Launiupoko, a popular surf destination, is also one of West Maui's most popular residential communities Lahaina real estate ranges from cute plantation-style cottages, a wide variety of condos, to multi-million dollar beach front estates. Living in the Launiupoko Community is living inside the rich history of ancient Hawaiian agriculture with early inhabitants growing taro and sweet potato down the lush mountain range and valleys. This area is known as part of the "royalty playground" and helped to bestow the beginning of the great-unified Hawaiian Islands, and the original seat of the Hawaiian monarchy.
Perhaps one of the most desirable qualities of this area is enjoying the long, sunny days typical to the West Side of Maui. With expansive views from the mountains to the ocean, delight in panoramic scenes of the Pacific Ocean offering views of the neighboring isles of Molokai, Lanai, and Kaho'olawe. During the winter months, this is an inimitable and spectacular location to see the Humpback Whales breech in the ocean before you.
Launiupoko - A benefit to living in the Launiupoko Community is the close proximity to beaches like Launiupoko Beach Park, a favorite amongst local residents.
